EXECUTIVE
Editors-in-Chiefs

Miran Tsay (she/her) is an incoming fourth year majoring in English and East Asian Studies, and has long since loved genre-fiction—specifically anything with dragons. She is excited and grateful to be working with the Spec and its team for another year. Miran recently consumed and loved Ende’s The Never Ending Story and Miyazaki’s How Do You Live. She holds pirates and immortal beings close to her heart, and stories about quests and homes even closer.

Ola (she/they) is a fourth-year Linguistics and Psychology double major, and excited to rep The Spec this year! Her favorite book in the entire world is The Little Prince (constantly looking for new translations) and the last movie that made her ugly-cry in the hallway outside the movie theatre was I Saw The TV Glow. Ola wants you to WRITE FOR US PLEASEEEEE!!!!!
Managing Editor

Phoebe (she/her) is in her third year double-majoring in Classics and Mediaeval Studies, with a focus on ancient religion and language. Recently, she has been consuming animated movies at an alarming rate (her favourites include Fehérlófia, Song of the Sea, and, of course, How to Train Your Dragon). She loves poorly budgeted supernatural dramas, Arthurian literature, and stories about coming home.
Creative Director

Biew Biew Sakulwannadee (she/her) is a History Specialist whose obsession with collecting superhero encyclopedias marked the beginning of a long path that has led her to become the creative director at the Spectatorial. These days you can find her rejoicing over and analyzing the soft and hope-filled reboot of superhero movies, deconstructing House and Wilson’s non-heterosexual relationship, and decorating her ita bag with all the Jing Yuan merch she can find.
…please don’t steal her ita bag with all the Jing Yuan merch, it was a very nice gift.
Online Manager

Adaora Olisa (any prns) is a third year student double majoring in Peace Conflict Justice and Criminology, with a minor in Creativity and Society (a mouthful, they know!). Reading was her first love and they’ve since become enamored by books such as “This is How You Lose the Time War”, “Piranesi” , “The Death of Vivek Oji”, and a recent fave, “Local Heavens.” Speculative fiction will always have her heart, but she’s open to reading just about anything with beautiful prose and deeply flawed characters. When not reading, you can find them writing experimental prose and speculative short stories, playing Florence and the Machine on repeat, and slowly becoming a Letterboxd girlie.
EDITORIAL
Senior Editors

Amy Yang (she/her) is a second-year student majoring in History with a double minor in Linguistics and Latin. She enjoys period dramas, the other-worldly, and the works of V.E. Schwab and R.F. Kuang. She always has a candle lit, a journal open, and a stack of dictionaries by her side.

Emily Wong (she/her) is a 4th year studying physics and physiology. She spends her free time crocheting strange shapes, running away from her unfinished WIPs and cooking up “what if” scenarios take for a spin inside her scifi writing worlds.

Nathan (he/him)is in his fifth year, studying English and creative writing. He is often a day dreamer, staring out his window and imagining the fantastical worlds that could be out there. When he’s not reading books or writing them, he’s often playing video games or cooking

Jonah Watkins (he/him) is a second-year student, majoring in English with minors in Digital Humanities and Creative Writing. When not reading, he can typically be found figuring out a new board game, baking, or attempting to defend comic books as a serious form of art. Some particularly beloved authors include Kazuo Ishiguro, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Kieron Gillen
Junior Editors

Chris (he/they) is a second-year student majoring in Public Health and Women & Gender Studies, with a Statistics minor. When he is not swamped with assignments, Chris likes to read fanfiction, write trivia questions, and play cozy video games. As a lover of erotic horror, sci-fi, and anything grotesquely queer, he waits impatiently for Alecto the Ninth to come out.

Crescentia Kim (she/her) is a fourth year student in the English, Classical, and East Asian Studies programs. She is excited to be a new junior editor for the Spec. A bit too obsessed with shrimp fried rice for her own good, she is a proud lover of all things mint—yes, even mint chocolate ice cream—and planning out novels she will likely never finish writing in her own lifetime. Every day, her reading list grows by an inch. While she isn’t daydreaming about owning a game console 24/7, she hopes to find a potential spouse who makes six figures in STEM.

Ciara Drummond (she/they) is a third year criminology student with minors in creative writing and women gender studies. Ever since she was young, they have always had a passion for writing after the Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard sparked her love for Fantasy. She has always been fascinated by flawed and complex characters forced into a dark but unique world. Currently, she mostly writes fantasy and other speculative fiction (when she is not procrastinating) with her biggest inspirations being The Poppy Wars by R F Kuang, Dark Rise by C S Pacat and The Radiant Emperor duology by Shelley-Chan. Right now, she is reading the Fifth Season by N K Jemisin (It is amazing! You need to read it) and they are excited to work on the Zines for this year!
Graduate Advisors

Hey all Spec readers! I’m Jacky (he/him), the current graduate advisor and previous Editor-in-Chief. I was an English major and sociology minor at UofT, and I’m currently working on my teaching degree at York. I love the dark fantasy, tragedy, and cosmic horror genres, though I’m currently going through Kazuo Ishiguro’s catalogue and Iain Banks’ Culture series. I am also fascinated with the movie “The Long Walk”. I’m looking forward to seeing a new generation of writers rise up this year at the Spectatorial

Katarina is a MA student specializing in Ottoman studies. In her free time, she likes to knit, watch shows full of yearn, and listen to terrible metalcore!
First Year Representative

Lucy (she/her) is in her freshman year, hoping to double major in English/Classics and minor in political science. She has been obsessed with Harry Potter for most of her life and takes its analysis very seriously. Her absolute favourite read of 2025 was Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver and she hopes to find more novels that will rip her heart into shreds. She’s also a huge AJ Lee fan and so nearly died when the latter returned to wrestling after a decade of retirement.

Norah (she/her) is a first year humanities student, planning to double major in English and Book & Media Studies with a minor in Creative Writing. She loves a good story in any form of media, but without fail finds herself coming back to fantasy novels. Her favourite pieces of spec fiction include Harry Potter, the Handmaid’s Tale, and Frankenstein
