The Spectatorial’s masthead for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Meet the team!
.
.
Hi everyone! I’m Jacky (he/him), one of the co-Editors-in-Chief this year at the Spec! I’m a fourth year English major at the St.George campus, with a minor in Sociology and Education. I’m a huge speculative fiction reader, with Lovecraft, Bradbury, Dan Simmons, Tamsyn Muir, and Le Guin as some of my favourites! Right now I’m reading through Harlan Ellison’s Dangerous Visions, and you’ll find me hiking and at karaoke in my spare time! Can’t wait to see what the next year at the Spectatorial brings!
.
Katarina is a fourth-year student about to finish her studies at UofT! She majors in History with double minors in French and Creative Writing! When Katarina isn’t staring off into the distance imagining plot ideas, she likes to knit and crochet her stresses away to some calming metal music while downing espresso shots left and right. She’s proud to have been part of The Spectatorial since the start of her studies, starting off as a First-Year Representative to becoming a Senior Editor, to working her way up to co-Editor-in-Chief. She looks forward to a fantastic year!

Miran is a 3rd year English and East Asian Studies major, and in between everything else likes to work with campus newspapers. She recently consumed and loved Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron and Someone to Build a Nest In by John Wiswell. She holds dragons, immortal beings, and little creatures close to her heart, and stories about names and lovers even closer.

.
Diana is a fourth-year student majoring in Book and Media Studies with minors in Writing and Rhetoric & Creativity and Society. She is a practicing creative with a passion for storytelling through different media. In her role as Creative Director, she bridges her skills in visual design with her interest in the speculative. In her free time, she can be found wandering outside or writing science fiction.
.
.
Ola (she/they) is a third-year Linguistics and Psychology double major, and—in her quest to be worthy of her Online Manager role—has gained a fresh and brutal opp in the form of WordPress dot com. Her favorite book in the world is The Little Prince and the last movie that made her ugly-cry in the hallway outside the movie theatre was I Saw The TV Glow. She looks forward to reading and arranging everyone’s speculative yapping this year!
.
.
(she/her/any pronouns, 2nd year Master of Information – Culture & Technology) Anya is studying to be a professional grandma, frequently crocheting, spinning yarn, and doing puzzles. She loves sci-fi and horror and aims to see Alien: Romulus as many times as humanly possible before it leaves theatres. In her actual studies, her research revolves around technology dependence among youth and the role of tech in the classroom.
.
.
Phoebe (she/her) is a second-year student double-majoring in Classics and Mediaeval Studies at UTSG, and a Senior Editor for the magazine. She loves poorly budgeted supernatural dramas, Arthurian literature, and stories about coming home.

Adaora Olisa (she/they) is in her second year studying Criminology and Socio-legal studies and Peace, Conflict, and Justice at the St. George Campus. She’s a sucker for spec fiction with beautiful prose, weird but loveable characters, and unconventional narratives. When she’s not reading or writing, you can find her blasting music in her headphones, trying to convince people to watch Interview With The Vampire, watching animated shows and doing her daily murdle puzzle. She’s looking forward to yet another great year and can’t wait to read all the wonderful submissions!

Biew Biew Sakulwannadee (she/her) is a History Specialist entering her 3rd year at UTSG. You can find her talking excitedly about recent tv shows and movies, with entries such as House of the Dragon and The Umbrella Academy. However, her bread and butter, so to speak, include media such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Greek Mythology (Including Percy Jackson), and Honkai Star Rail. She’s currently looking forward to finally playing Hades 2 on PC, even though it’s still in early development. Do not open a bag of fries around her, as she will steal around 60% of them. Especially if the fries are from McDonalds or Five Guys.
.
My name is Nathan, he/him. I’m in my fourth year English/Creative Writing major at UTSC. I am one of the junior editors. I often find my head in the clouds, waters, and even dirt in search of magic to write about. In my spare time, I write my own stories and when I’m not doing that, I enjoy cooking, playing video games, or learning K-pop dances at two AM.
.

.
Elisa Penha (she/her) is a second year student studying Classics, Celtic Studies, and Renaissance studies. She has a passion for fairytales, folklore, and anything with wings. In her free time, find her wishing she’d attended Warped Tour 2005 or learning a (probably dead) language. Elisa is delighted to be working as a Junior Editor for this year’s Spectatorial!
.
.
Jonah Watkins (he/him) is a first-year student, hoping to major in English and double minor in Digital Humanities and something else. When not reading, he can typically be found figuring out a new board game, rock climbing, or watching some inane but interesting Youtube video. Some particularly beloved authors include Ursula K Le Guin, Terry Pratchett, Brandon Sanderson, and Kieron Gillen.

We hope to serve you well this year! ❤
