[The Spectatorial is a] journal for the perpetuation of speculative fiction, genre fiction, folklore, and mythology. Our goal is to elaborate on the importance of the ‘untrue’ in modern society, and to create a space for the largest lies of literature.

The Spectatorial is looking for some spectacular speculators to fill out our Editorial team!

As a new journal, we are excited to offer unique opportunities to our staff; successful applicants will get to help build a journal from the ground up and be a part of a founding staff. Being a part of The Spectatorial is about building community, not just building a journal. Moreover, there is an abundance of opportunity, since all of our positions (excepting Editor in Chief and Creative Director) are wide open and waiting to be filled.

Applicants should be enthusiastic, determined, and must have an eye for detail. Moreover, they must be passionate about speculative fiction — this is a labour of love!

The positions we currently have open are:

Fiction: Prose & Poetry Editor (1 Position), Nonfiction: Essay & Article Editor (1 Position), Graphic Fiction & Illustrations Editor (1 Position), Designer & Social Media Manager (1 Position), Editorial Board (5 Positions, 2 Reserved for First Years)

If interested, please fill out the below application and email it to thespectatorial@gmail.com. Deadline for applications is 11:59pm on Friday, October 11th. Interviews will begin before the deadline so we can make the announcement as soon as possible – expect to hear back from us within 48 hours!

Designer and illustrator applicants are required to include a portfolio of three to six pieces. Applicants for editorial positions are required to include two pieces of personal writing appropriate to the position they are applying for. Editorial board applicants are not required to submit a portfolio of writing or design, but may if they wish.
